Message from Kelly Hrudey - President of the WHL Alumni Association

This is a very exciting time for the Western Hockey League and our newly formed WHL Alumni Association. As the first ever President of this initiative, I am of the firm belief that the WHL Alumni Association will not only give us a chance to reconnect, but more importantly, we also have the unique opportunity to directly enhance the WHL experience for all the current and future players in the League.

We expect our new WHL Alumni Association will add considerable value to the WHL as is stands today, and for years to come. The first priority will be to establish a database of former WHL players, coaches, managers and trainers so that we can keep everyone up to date on the League and to launch a player mentorship program to provide encouragement for young players as they deal with the challenges of playing in the WHL.

Personally, some of my best memories in the game are from the years spent with the Medicine Hat Tigers (1978-1981) when I chose, like many of you, to leave home for the first time. This unto itself provides many challenges for the players and their families. Let's share our thoughts on ways to further enhance the League and help the WHL ensure nothing but positive experiences for the players in the WHL today.

As you may be aware, the WHL is very concerned about education, and to that end, I am proud to say the League ensures not only a high school education but post secondary education is paramount to every player's development, through the WHL Scholarship Program.

I welcome your involvement and participation in this exciting new era of the Western Hockey League and the WHL Alumni Association. For further information on the WHL and our WHL Alumni Association go to the WHL website, www.whl.ca.

Your information will be discretely stored in the WHL Alumni Association database and only accessible by the WHL Alumni Association Executive Committee. Many current and former WHL Clubs have formed individual Club Alumni Associations; these associations may also request access to their Club's Alumni lists for various functions.

You will also receive weekly WHL Alumni features along with any other news and information pertaining to the WHL Alumni Association.
