MOOSE JAW WARRIORS: Reid Jackson Sidelined For Season

Moose Jaw Warriors General Manager Alan Millar and 19 year old Reid Jackson announced that the Weyburn product will miss the remainder of the season due to concussion and post-concussions symptoms.

“This was a very difficult day for Reid, his family, and the hockey club,” said Warriors General Manager Alan Millar.  “Reid has decided that as a result of concussion and post-concussion symptoms he’s going to stop playing for the remainder of the season.  We’ve got a great kid that we’re proud of and who will remain a big part of our team, but has had the realization of a difficult decision about looking beyond this year, his academics and getting healthy.”

“It’s been a difficult decision for me and my family,” said Jackson.  “Alan and (Head Coach) Mike Stothers have both been very helpful throughout all of it; I’ve had a great support system with them and my family.  It was a difficult decision but it was the best decision for me.”

Millar says that Jackson will spend time between Moose Jaw and his hometown of Weyburn as he receives treatment over the next couple of months, and will remain a part of the organization moving forward.  “He’ll be around, specifically on game days doing some extra work and doing some work for the coaching staff.  He’s a great young man who will continue to be a part of the team; we’ll want to have him around the rink as the season moves on.”

Jackson was acquired by the Warriors from Prince George in May 2012, in 12 games this season he has two assists and 24 penalty minutes.  Jackson, who hails from Weyburn, was drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the second round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.  He played two full seasons with the Hurricanes before being traded to Prince George early in the 2011-12 season.  In total he has played in 168 games, scoring 10 goals and racking up 42 points and 207 penalty minutes.
