WINTERHAWKS TAKE DOWN GIANTS – Ty Rattie scored four goals and set up another to lead the visiting Portland Winterhawks to an 8-3 win over the Vancouver Giants in the only Western Hockey League contest on Monday.
Brendan Leipsic tallied a goal and three assists and Nic Petan chipped in two assists as both players reached the 100-point plateau for the Winterhawks (46-8-1-2), who scored four times in the first period as they earn their third win in a row, while Chase De Leo, Keegan Iverson and Josh Hansen also scored. Brendan Burke made 35 saves to claim the win.
Former Winterhawk Jason Trott got his first goal of the season while Carter Popoff and Jackson Houck also counted for the Giants (14-42-0-0), who have lost five of their last six home games. Payton Lee and Jared Rathjen combined for 36 saves in the defeat.
