Oil Kings Set New Club RecordsDec 10, 2012 - 03:56 MST
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings would like to thank all of the fans who attended the 6th Annual Dodge Teddy Bear Toss presented by Global TV and Shaw Media this past weekend. Rookie import Edgars Kulda tallied the Teddy Bear goal just two minutes into the game. The goal sparked the crowd of 12,575 at Rexall Place to toss a new Oil Kings record of 10,835 stuffed toys for donation to 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.
An additional $20,195.50 was raised thanks to the silent and live action of the specialty themed jerseys the team wore that night combined with 630 CHED Santas Anonymous participation in the team's Chuck A Puck and 50/50 programs!
"I get goose bumps when I see children donating to Santas Anonymous who are the same age as the children we are providing gifts for." said Lana Nordlund, Executive Director for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous "Bravo to these kids and their parents for understanding that you are never too young to make a difference."
The hockey club would like to sincerely thank all of the volunteers, sponsors and fans who made this year's event a success.
The Kings return to the friendly confines of Rexall Place on Wednesday, December 12 in another marquee WHL matchup featuring two of the top 10 teams in the country. The Oil Kings will have their third and final regular season meeting with the Western Conference leading Kamloops Blazers. These teams split their first two meetings with the Kings taking a 2-1 win in Kamloops on November 6th. Kamloops is currently ranked 4th in the CHL Top Ten. Edmonton holds the tenth spot in the BMO CHL Weekly Top 10 rankings.
