OIL KINGS STOP BLADES -- Michael St. Croix’s 41st goal of the season was the winner as the Edmonton Oil Kings skated to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.
T.J. Foster and Curtis Lazar also scored for the Oil Kings (44-15-3-4), who pick up their fifth win in a row and now need just three more points to clinch the Central Division title. Laurent Brossoit made 16 saves to post his 50th career victory.
Jake Trask – with his 19th goal of the season – scored the lone marker for the Blades (36-27-1-2), who went 0-for-8 on the power play as they drop their fourth straight decision. Adam Todd made 31 saves in the defeat.
AMERICANS 4, WINTERHAWKS 3
Justin Feser scored the winner with just 51 seconds to play in the third period as the visiting Tri-City Americans edged the Portland Winterhawks 4-3 on Sunday.
Ty Rimmer turned in a 48-save performance for the Americans (46-17-1-2), who snap a two-game losing skid and now sit one point back of the Hawks for first place in the U.S. Division and Western Conference. Brendan Shinnimin – with his 54th of the season – Connor Rankin and Adam Hughesman also scored for the Ams.
Sven Bartschi scored twice and Brad Ross had a goal and an assist while Ty Rattie picked up two helpers for the Winterhawks (46-16-3-1), who suffer their first regulation defeat in their last 14 games. Mac Carruth made 18 saves in the setback.
PATS 4, RAIDERS 3
Brandon Davidson scored the go-ahead goal with just 21 seconds left in the third period to lift the Regina Pats to a 4-3 triumph over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Sunday.
Lane Scheidl scored twice and Chandler Stephenson also scored for the Pats (35-24-5-2), who overturned a 3-2 deficit in the third period to post their second win in a row. Adam Beukeboom made 23 saves to claim his fifth victory of the season.
Mike Winther – with his 30th of the season – Justin Maylan and Mark McNeill scored for the Raiders (20-39-3-3), who suffer their fourth loss in a row. Cole Holowenko made 30 saves in a losing cause.
GIANTS 6, ROYALS 0
Adam Morrison made 18 saves to record his first shutout of the season as the visiting Vancouver Giants blanked the Victoria Royals 6-0 on Sunday.
Riley Kieser, Matt Bellerive, Jackson Houck and Cain Franson each netted a goal and an assist while David Musil and Tyler Vanscourt also counted for the Giants (37-25-1-3), who move into a tie on points with Spokane for fourth place in the Western Conference.
Jared Rathjen and Keith Hamilton combined for 31 saves in the defeat for the Royals (21-39-2-4), who were outshot 37-18 by the visitors as they split their two-game weekend series versus the Giants.
