BRONCOS BUCK OIL KINGS – Adam Lowry scored twice to pace the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.
Richard Nedomlel also scored and Reece Scarlett chipped in three assists for the Broncos (27-24-3-2), who converted two of nine power play chances while posting their second win in a row and moving into a tie with Lethbridge fir sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Eetu Laurikainen stopped 38 of 39 shots he faced to backstop the Broncos to the win.
Dylan Wruck scored his 18th goal of the season for the Oil Kings (41-12-2-3), who were blanked on five power play chances as they see an 11-game winning streak come to an end. Laurent Brossoit made 24 saves in the loss.
Even with the loss, the Oil Kings clinch a playoff berth thanks to Kootenay’s loss to the Tigers.
TIGERS 3, ICE 2
Trevor Cox scored twice in the third period to help lead the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Sunday.
Curtis Valk scored his 33rd goal of the season for the Tigers (27-26-2-1), who earn their second win in a row and pad their lead to three points over the Ice for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Cam Lanigan stopped 27 of 29 shots he faced in the win.
Jaedon Descheneau scored and set up another while Brock Montgomery notched his 23rd goal of the season for the Ice (26-28-2-0), who went 1-for-5 on the power play as they see a three-game winning streak snapped. Mackenzie Skapski made 20 saves in a losing cause.
ROCKETS 3, SILVERTIPS 2
Colton Sissons notched a goal and an assist as the visiting Kelowna Rockets scored three times in the first period en route to a 3-2 win over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday.
Ryan Olsen and JT Barnett also scored while Myles Bell picked up three assists for the Rockets (41-13-3-1), who scored all three of their goals in a 3:22 span in the first period as they snap a three-game losing skid. Jackson Whistle made 27 saves to earn his 12th win of the season.
Ty Mappin and Manraj Hayer scored for the Silvertips (21-31-1-4), who also saw Ryan Harrison’s second-period penalty shot stopped by Whistle as they suffer their sixth loss in a row. Daniel Cotton made 22 saves in the defeat.
ROYALS 5, CHIEFS 3
Jamie Crooks scored twice, including a shorthanded marker, to lead the visiting Victoria Royals to a 5-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday.
Austin Carroll tallied a goal and two assists, Ben Walker picked up a goal and an assist and Jack Walker got his fourth goal of the season for the Royals (32-19-1-3), who push their winning streak to five games and move two points up on the Chiefs for fourth place in the Western Conference. Patrik Polivka made 17 saves to post his 28th victory of the season.
Adam Power scored his first WHL marker while Mitch Holmberg and Dylan Walchuk also scored for the Chiefs (32-22-2-0), who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second period as they suffer their sixth loss in eight games. Eric Williams and Garret Hughson combined for 23 saves in the defeat.
