ROCKETS SHOOT DOWN BLAZERS – Zach Franko scored twice and added three assists for a five-point outing as the Kelowna Rockets skated to a 7-3 win over the visiting Kamloops Blazers in Western Hockey League action on Thursday.
Ryan Olsen scored two goals and chipped in two assists and JT Barnett also counted twice while Myles Bell notched a goal and an assist for the Rockets (24-10-1-1), who narrow the gap to just four points on the Blazers for first place in the B.C. Division. Jackson Whistle made 19 saves to post the victory.
Tim Bozon scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season while Colin Smith also tallied for the Blazers (25-10-2-2), who see their losing skid stretched to four games. Cole Cheveldave made 17 saves through the first 40 minutes of play, absorbing the loss, while Taran Kozun stopped six of seven shots in the third period.
WARRIORS 4, PATS 3
Colton McCarthy scored his first WHL goal and assist to help the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-3 win over the Regina Pats on Thursday.
Tanner Eberle scored twice and Travis Brown also scored for the Warriors (13-17-3-4), who took a 4-1 lead on McCarthy’s power play goal 7:56 into the third period and held on for the win. Justin Paulic stopped 26 of 29 shots he faced to record his 10th victory of the season.
Chandler Stephenson scored two goals in his return to the lineup while Morgan Klimchuk added his 18th of the season for the Pats (13-21-2-2), who fall to 8-8-2 on home ice this season. Matt Hewitt made 21 saves in a losing cause.
REBELS 5, OIL KINGS 3
Matt Dumba scored a pair of goals to propel the visiting Red Deer Rebels to a 5-3 triumph over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday.
Wyatt Johnson, Turner Elson and Brooks Maxwell also scored and Brady Gaudet drew two assists for the Rebels (22-13-2-1), who stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:37 of the game as they earn their second straight win. Bolton Pouliot turned in a stunning 53-save effort to post the victory.
Michael St. Croix – with his 20th goal of the season – Travis Ewanyk and JT Foster scored for the Oil Kings (23-8-2-3), who see a five-game winning streak come to an end. Tristan Jarry made 34 saves in the loss for the Oil Kings.
