THUNDERBIRDS DOWN SILVERTIPS – Roberts Lipsbergs scored three goals to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-3 win over the visiting Everett Silvertips in Western Hockey League action on Tuesday.
Justin Hickman notched a goal and an assist and Jesse Forsberg got his second goal of the season for the Thunderbirds (12-12-1-0), who broke a 3-3 tie with two goals in the third period. Brandon Glover made 20 saves to post his 11th win of the season.
Kohl Bauml, Josh Winquist and Carson Stadnyk scored while Reid Petryk chipped in three assists for the Silvertips (10-17-0-2), who went 1-for-4 on the power play as they drop their second straight decision. Daniel Cotton made 33 saves in the loss.
WARRIORS 4, ROYALS 3 S/O
Jordan Messier scored the deciding goal in a shootout to lift the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-3 win over the Victoria Royals on Tuesday.
Brayden Point sent the game to overtime with the tying goal with 1:04 remaining in the third period while Travis Brown and Justin Kirsch also scored for the Warriors (9-11-3-4), who rallied from a 3-1 deficit over the final 3:55 of the third period. Daniel Wapple made 19 saves through regulation play and denied three of four Royals’ shootout attempts to post the win.
Brandon Magee, Alex Gogolev and Tim Traber – with his first of the season – scored for the Royals (13-12-0-1), who suffer their first loss in extra time this season. Patrik Polivka made 33 stops in regulation, but was beaten twice in the shootout for the loss.
BLADES 5, HURRICANES 3
Brenden Walker scored two goals as the Saskatoon Blades rallied from a 3-1 deficit to post a 5-3 triumph over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Nick Zajac, Matej Stransky and Darren Dietz also scored for the Blades (12-12-0-1), who held the Hurricanes scoreless on three power play chances. Andrey Makarov made 22 saves in the win.
Sam Mckechnie, Jaimen Yakubowski and Ryan Pilon scored for the Hurricanes (13-13-1-2), who slump to their sixth loss in a row and remain in fourth place in the Central Division. Ty Rimmer made 29 saves in the defeat.
BRONCOS 5, WHEAT KINGS 3
Levi Bews scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season to pace the Swift Current Broncos to a 5-3 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday.
Reece Scarlett, Josh Derko and Ryon Moser also scored and Graham Black had three assists for the Broncos (10-12-3-2), who now sit in a four-way tie for second place in the East Division. Eetu Laurikainen made 21 saves to post the victory.
Richard Nejezchleb scored twice and Alessio Bertaggia picked up a goal and two assists for the Wheat Kings (10-14-2-1), who drop their third decision in a row. Corbin Boes made 33 saves in a losing cause.
