BLADES TAME TIGERS – Adam Kambeitz scored twice and picked up an assist as his Saskatoon Blades downed the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers 7-2 in Western Hockey League action on New Year’s Day.
Shane McColgan tallied a goal and an assist while Tyler Giebel, Josh Nicholls, Lukas Sutter and Brett Stovin also scored for the Blades (20-18-0-1), who got things going with three goals in a 3:15 span in the first period as they snap a four-game losing skid. Patrick Johnson turned in a 38-save performance to record his first WHL victory.
Logan McVeigh scored in his debut for Medicine Hat while Elgin Pearce also counted for the Tigers (16-20-2-0), who went 1-for-5 on the power play while allowing two power play goals on five Blades’ chances in the loss. Marek Langhamer stopped four of seven shots he faced over the first 7:31 of the game, taking the loss, while Cam Lanigan stopped 27 shots the rest of the way.
HURRICANES 6, BRONCOS 4
Daniel Johnston’s seventh goal of the season, scored on a power play 14:42 into the third period, was the winner as the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes skated to a 6-4 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday.
Brady Ramsay – with a goal and two assists – Remi Laurencelle, Tyler Wong, Sam Mckechnie and Graham Hood also scored for the Hurricanes (19-17-1-4), who overturned a 4-2 deficit in the third period with four unanswered goals. Ty Rimmer stopped 32 shots to claim his 17th win of the season.
Coda Gordon scored twice while Adam Lowry and Ryon Moser also found the net for the Broncos (17-19-3-2), who suffer their second straight setback and drop to seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Landon Bow made 30 saves in the defeat.
