WHL TRANSACTIONS: January 9, 2013
 

The Edmonton Oil Kings trade F Klarc Wilson (19) to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars have acquired 1993-born forward Klarc Wilson (Edmonton, AB) from the Edmonton Oil Kings. In return, the Cougars part ways with a third round pick in the 2014 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
 
So far this season Wilson has scored five goals and 16 points for the Oil Kings. In 225 career games (Edmonton and Brandon) he has scored 23 goals and 78 points along with 332 penalty minutes. He added a goal and five points in 14 playoff games last season en route to a league championship with Edmonton.
 
Wilson was selected by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first round (10th overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. He played 19 games with the Wheat Kings before being traded to Edmonton in December, 2009. Wilson attended the Winnipeg Jets training camp as a free-agent invite prior to the 2011-2012 season.

Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Oil Kings’ General Manager Bob Green announced this afternoon the team has traded veteran forward Klarc Wilson to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a third round draft pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.

Wilson is a 93-born forward who was originally drafted by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. Wilson was acquired by the Oil Kings in December 2009 in exchange for veteran forward Brent Raedeke.

"We would like to thank Klarc for his contributions to our hockey club both on and off the ice." said Green. "We think he should have a great opportunity to take on a new role in Prince George and wish him all the best in the future."

The native of Edmonton posted career highs last season with 67 games played, 18 assists and 25 points. Wilson also added a five points and 13 PIMs in 14 playoff games to help the Oil Kings to their first WHL Championship in the modern era. Over his four-year WHL career, Wilson has posted 23 goals, 55 assists and 332 penalty minutes in 225 WHL games.

The Vancouver Giants trade D Stewart Coyle (17) to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Spokane Chiefs have acquired 17-year-old defenseman Stewart Coyle from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Coyle, a 6’2”, 185 pound native of Sicamous, B.C., has appeared in 27 career WHL games, 17 this season with the Giants.  In 20011-12, Coyle appeared in 10 games with the Kelowna Rockets and another 38 with the Sicamous Eagles of the KIJHL.

VANCOUVER, BC - The Giants have traded 17 year-old defenceman Stewart Coyle to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Coyle was acquired by Vancouver from the Kelowna Rockets earlier this season. The Sicamous native tallied 2 assists in 17 games with the Giants this season.

The Vancouver Giants trade F Trevor Cheek (20) to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Oil Kings’ General Manager Bob Green announced today the team has acquired veteran forward Trevor Cheek from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Cheek is a 6'2" 198-pound forward who was acquired by the Giants early this season from the Calgary Hitmen.    The Vancouver, Washington native is 20 years old and fills the last available over-age spot on the  Oil Kings roster.   Those other two 20-year-old spots are taken by forwards T.J. Foster and Dylan Wruck.

"Trevor Cheek is a tough, versatile, veteran player who can take on multiple roles in our top 9 forward group." said Green "He should have instant chemistry in our room having played with David Musil in Vancouver and Henrik Samuelsson in midget."

Cheek was leading the Giants with 18 goals and was second in team scoring with 33 points. The gritty two-way forward has totalled 164 games, 51 goals, 56 assists and 147 penalty minutes over his three WHL seasons with Calgary and Vancouver.

The second round pick included in the deal was originally acquired from Portland last season in exchange for the rights to Cam Reid.

VANCOUVER, BC - The Giants have traded 20 year-old Trevor Cheek to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a second round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Cheek, who was acquired by Vancouver from the Calgary Hitmen earlier this season, has played 39 games with the Giants, registering 18 goals and 14 assists.

The Kootenay Ice trade D Mike Simpson (18) to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Lethbridge, AB – Lethbridge Hurricanes GM and Head Coach Rich Preston announced Wednesday the team acquired 18-year old Mike Simpson from the Kootenay Ice for a 5th round pick in 2013.

GM and Head Coach Rich Preston stated “we’re pleased to acquire Mike Simpson, who a big strong, tough defenceman is coming from a real good organization the Kootenay Ice.

Simpson is a 6’4, 207 pound defenceman from Semiahmoo, BC and he has played in 40 games with the Ice this year chipping in an assist to go along with his 47 PIM’s and a minus-7 plus/minus rating. Last season, he finished with 4 points (1G, 3A), 52 PIM’s and a plus/minus rating of minus-3.

Simpson is expected to join the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday.

Cranbrook, BC – Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced the Club has traded 18-year-old Defenceman Mike Simpson to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

"This trade will allow our younger defencemen to play more while giving Mike an opportunity to continue his WHL career in Lethbridge. We wish Mike all the best with the Hurricanes.” added Chynoweth

As a result of today's transaction, the ICE have 21 players on their roster and seven picks in the first five rounds of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft including one in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds and four in the 5th round.
