BLADES TOP WARRIORS – Stefan Elliott scored his ninth goal of the season and Steven Stanford turned aside 26 of 27 shots to lead the visiting Saskatoon Blades to a 4-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.
Brent Benson, Josh Nicholls and Walker Wintoneak also scored for the Blades (19-3-0-3), who win their fourth straight contest and pick up their 17th victory in 19 games. The win leaves the Blades nine points clear for first place in the East Division.
Antonin Honejsek notched his fourth goal in his last four games for the Warriors (15-9-1-0), who suffer their second straight defeat on home ice. Jeff Bosch and Brandon Glover combined for 20 saves in the loss.
Toni Rajala scored a pair of goals to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-2 win over the visiting Calgary Hitmen on Friday.
Alexander Urbom, Matt Calvert and Paul Van de Velde also scored for the Wheat Kings (15-10-0-2), who earn their second win in a row while outshooting the Hitmen 41-30 in the contest. Andrew Hayes made 28 saves to earn the win.
Michael stone – with his 13th of the season – and Ian Schultz scored for the Hitmen (19-7-0-0), who see their three-game winning streak come to an end. Martin Jones made 35 saves in the loss.
Blake Gal scored twice and added an assist to lead the visiting Spokane Chiefs to a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday.
Levko Koper, an Edmonton product, notched a goal and an assist for the Chiefs (13-7-1-0), who pick up their third straight victory. James Reid turned in a 41-save performance to backstop the Chiefs to the victory.
Brent Raedeke scored the only goal for the Oil Kings (8-13-2-4), who have lost three straight games. Torrie Jung made 25 saves in a losing cause.
Matt Strueby scored the decisive goal in a shootout to lead the Regina Pats to a 3-2 win over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Friday.
Jordan Eberle and Kyle Mulder scored in regulation for the Pats (12-11-3-0), who trailed 2-0 after the opening period but rallied to tie the game and send it to the eventual shootout. Damien Ketlo made 27 saves through three periods and overtime, and denied three of four Ice shootout attempts to claim the win.
Joey Leach and Kevin King scored in regulation for the Ice (11-12-1-1), who see a three-game winning streak come to an end with their first shootout loss of the season. Todd Mathews made 31 saves in regulation but was beaten twice in the shootout to take the loss.
Wacey Hamilton scored twice and set up another while Bretton Cameron scored once and added an assist to lead the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 6-4 win over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night.
Zdenek Okal tallied a goal and an assist and Matt MacKay and Linden Vey also scored for the Tigers (14-9-2-3), who earn their third straight victory and improve to 4-0-0-1 in their last five outings. Tyler Bunz made 33 saves in the victory.
Dustin Cameron, Brandon Herrod, Jordan Hickmott and Nathan Deck scored for the Raiders (12-12-1-2), who converted two of three power play chances in the contest, while Craig McCallum drew three assists. Garrett Zemlak made 28 saves in the defeat.
Roman Horak and Ryan Howse each scored twice and added an assist to lead the Chilliwack Bruins to a 6-4 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks on Friday night.
Chris Collins and Kevin Sundher also scored for the Bruins (11-12-1-3), who earn their third straight win, while Mark Friesen made 33 saves.
Luke Walker scored twice and set up another while Chris Francis and Brad Ross also scored for the Winterhawks (16-9-0-0), who suffer their second defeat to the Bruins over the last week. Ian Curtis made 34 saves in the defeat.
Brock Hirsch’s fifth goal of the season was the winner as the Prince George Cougars edged the visiting Kelowna Rockets 3-2 on Friday night.
Dallas Jackson and Nick Buonassisi also scored for the Cougars (4-17-1-1), who snap a nine-game losing skid with their first victory since October 24th. Alex Wright made 38 saves to record his second win of the season.
Geordie Wudrick and Collin Bowman scored for the Rockets (11-13-1-0), who suffer their fifth loss in a row and fall to 2-9 on the road this season. Adam Brown made 22 saves in the loss.
Johnny Lazo scored twice and Adam Hughesman notched a goal and two assists to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 6-0 win over the visiting Everett Silvertips on Friday.
Brett Plouffe – with a goal and an assist – Neal Prokop and Justin Feser also scored for the Americans (18-5-0-0), who improve to 9-0 on home ice this season. Drew Owsley turned aside 25 shots to record his first shutout of the season.
Thomas Heemskerk made 33 saves in a losing cause for the Silvertips (13-7-1-0), who suffer their second defeat in their last three games.
Lindsay Nielsen scored twice to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Kamloops Blazers on Friday.
Sena Acolatse – with his seventh goal in his last eight games – also counted for the Thunderbirds (9-13-1-3), who have won five of their last six games. Calvin Pickard made 21 saves to claim his eighth win of the season.
Shayne Wiebe – with a shorthanded marker – scored the lone goal for the Blazers (10-13-2-1), who slump to their fifth straight defeat. Jon Groenheyde stopped 31 of 34 shots he faced in a losing cause.
