FEB 1, 2016 - FEB 7, 2016: IVAN PROVOROV, BRANDON WHEAT KINGS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Ivan Provorov has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 7th, 2016.  

Provorov recorded nine points (2g-7a) to go along with a plus-6 rating in three games to lead Brandon to a perfect record of 3-0-0-0 for the week.  

On Tuesday, February 2nd against the Moose Jaw Warriors, Provorov recorded three points (1g-2a) and a plus-3 rating as Brandon knocked off Moose Jaw by a score of 6-2. On Friday, February 5th against the Prince George Cougars, Provorov was a play-maker on the ice as he tallied a career-high five assists to lead the Wheat Kings to a convincing 8-3 victory. Provorov was named the game’s first star for his performance. The following night, Provorov buried his 12th goal of the season to help lead the Wheat Kings to their third straight victory as they took down the Medicine Hat Tigers by a score of 6-2. 

The 19-year-old Yaroslavl, RUS native has collected 50 points (12g-38a) in 43 games this season to sit third overall in scoring amongst WHL defencemen. The 6-0, 200 lb defenceman is in his second WHL campaign with Brandon and has amassed 111 points (27g-84a) in 103 career WHL regular season contests. Provorov was selected seventh overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015 NHL Draft. 

JAN 25, 2016 - JAN 31, 2016: CHASE WITALA, PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Chase Witala has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 31st, 2016.  

Witala recorded seven points (3g-4a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games as Prince George sits in third place in the BC Division standings with a record of 30-18-2-1. 

On Monday, January 25th against the Medicine Hat Tigers, Witala tallied an assist to go along with a plus-2 rating in the Cougars 4-3 loss. On Friday, January 29th, Witala scored a pair of goals, including his 30th of the season as Prince George fell to the Swift Current Broncos 4-3 in overtime. Witala was named the game’s second star for his efforts. The following night, Witala turned in a first star performance as he recorded four points (1g-3a) to lead the Cougars to a big 6-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The 20-year-old Prince George, BC native has collected 57 points (31g-26a) in 51 games this season to lead the Club in scoring. The 6-0, 170 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign with Prince George and has amassed 217 points (111g-106a) in 217 career WHL regular season contests. 

JAN 18, 2016 - JAN 24, 2016: GIORGIO ESTEPHAN, LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Giorgio Estephan has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 24th, 2016.  

Estephan recorded eight points (3g-5a) to go along with a plus-8 rating in three games to lead the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a record of 3-0-0-0 for the week and extend their season-high win streak to 10 straight.  

On Wednesday, January 20th against the Spokane Chiefs, Estephan was in on all four Hurricanes goals as he recorded four points (1g-3a) to guide Lethbridge to a 4-0 victory. Estephan also finished the game with a plus-4 rating and earned second star honours. On Saturday, January 23rd, Estephan recorded another multi-point performance with a goal and two assists to propel the Hurricanes to a 4-3 overtime victory against the Moose Jaw Warriors. Estephan was named the game’s first star for his efforts. The following night, Estephan scored the opening goal against the Edmonton Oil Kings which stood as the game winner in a 3-0 victory.

The 18-year-old Edmonton, AB native has collected 63 points (27g-36a) in 48 games this season to sit tied for seventh in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. The 6-0, 189 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign with Lethbridge and has amassed 139 points (63g-76a) in 179 career WHL regular season contests. 

JAN 11, 2016 - JAN 17, 2016: REID GARDINER, PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince Albert Raiders forward Reid Gardiner has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 17th, 2016.  

Gardiner recorded seven points (3g-4a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games to lead the Prince Albert Raiders to a record of 2-0-1-0 for the week.  

On Wednesday, January 13th against the Edmonton Oil Kings, Gardiner was involved in all three Prince Albert goals as he collected a goal and two assists to lead his team to a 3-1 victory. Gardiner was named the game’s first star for his efforts. On Friday, January 15th, Gardiner remained consistent on the score sheet as he recorded four points (2g-2a) to lead the Raiders to a 4-2 comeback win over the Kootenay ICE. Gardiner was once again named the game’s first star. The following night, Gardiner was held scoreless but earned a plus-1 rating as the Raiders fell to the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2 in overtime. 

The 19-year-old Humboldt, SK native has collected 64 points (29g-35a) in 45 games this season to sit tied for fourth in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. The 5-11, 195 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Prince Albert and has amassed 192 points (92g-100a) in 236 career WHL regular season contests. 

JAN 4, 2016 - JAN 10, 2016: ADAM HELEWKA, RED DEER REBELS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Red Deer Rebels forward Adam Helewka has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 10th, 2016.  

Helewka recorded eight points (6g-2a) to go along with a plus-7 rating in four games to lead the Red Deer Rebels to a record of 2-0-1-1 for the week. 

On Tuesday, January 5th against the Prince Albert Raiders, Helewka scored the game-winning goal as the Rebels defeated the Raiders by a score of 4-3. The following night, Helewka recorded three points (1g-2a) to lead the Rebels to a 5-0 shutout victory against the Saskatoon Blades. On Friday, January 8th, Helewka was named the game’s first star and scored the game-tying goal in the third period as the Rebels fell to the Hurricanes in a shootout. The following night, Helewka capped off an impressive week with another first-star performance as he netted a hat trick in the Rebels’ overtime loss to the Vancouver Giants.

The 20-year-old Burnaby, BC native has collected 41 points (23g-18a) in 24 total games so far this season, with 12 (7g-5a) coming  in five games since being acquired by Red Deer from Spokane. The 6-2, 200 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign and has amassed 205 points (100g-105a) in 215 career WHL regular season contests. Helewka was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

DEC 28, 2015 - JAN 3, 2016: ADAM BROOKS, REGINA PATS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats forward Adam Brooks has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 3rd, 2016.  

Brooks recorded 10 points (2g-8a) to go along with a plus-7 rating in four games to lead the Regina Pats to a record of 2-1-0-1 for the week. 

On Tuesday, December 29th against the Saskatoon Blades, Brooks notched three points (1g-2a) and a plus-2 rating to claim first star honours in their 3-1 victory. The following night against the Prince Albert Raiders, Brooks recorded his second consecutive three-point game with three assists in the Pats 6-5 shootout loss. On Friday, January 1st against the Swift Current Broncos, Brooks scored the overtime winner to guide the Pats to a 4-3 win. Brooks also tallied two assists for his third straight three-point effort and was named the game’s first star. On Sunday January 3rd, Brooks capped off the week with an assist against the Prince Albert Raiders as Regina fell by a score of 7-3.

The 19-year-old Winnipeg, MB native has collected 60 points (21g-39a) in 40 games this season to sit second overall in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. The 5-10, 175 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Regina and has amassed 145 points (59g-86a) in 219 career WHL regular season contests. 

DEC 7, 2015 - DEC 13, 2015: RIHARDS BUKARTS, PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Portland Winterhawks forward Rihards Bukarts has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 13th, 2015.  

Bukarts recorded seven points (6g-1a) in three games to propel the Portland Winterhawks to a record of 2-1-0-0 for the week. 

On Wednesday, December 9th against the Everett Silvertips, Bukarts scored three goals to pick up the hat trick and also tallied an assist in the Winterhawks’ 7-5 victory. Bukarts was named the game’s first star for his performance. On Friday, December 11th, Bukarts netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Winterhawks came back to defeat the Prince George Cougars by a score of 5-4. Bukarts was again named the game’s first star. The following night against the Prince George Cougars, Bukarts earned third star honours after scoring a goal in the Winterhawks’ 3-2 loss.

The 19-year-old Jurmala, Latvia native has collected 28 points (15g-13a) in 26 games this season with 19 of those points as a member of the Portland Winterhawk after being acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings earlier this season. The 5-9, 186 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign and has amassed 156 points (76g-80a) in 153 career WHL regular season contests. 

NOV 30, 2015 - DEC 6, 2015: TYLER BENSON, VANCOUVER GIANTS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants forward Tyler Benson has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 6th, 2015.  

Benson recorded eight points (2g-6a) in four games to guide the Vancouver Giants to a record of 2-2-0-0 for the week. 

On Wednesday, December 2nd against the Medicine Hat Tigers, the Giants captain notched a pair of assists to lead his Club to a 6-0 shutout victory. On Friday, December 4th, Benson again tallied two assists as the Giants went on to blank the Kootenay ICE 4-0 and was named the game’s first star. The following night against the Everett Silvertips, Benson scored the lone goal for Vancouver in their 3-1 defeat. On Sunday, December 6th, Benson capped off a productive week by recording a three-point outing (1g-2a) to go along with a plus-three rating in the Giants’ 6-5 loss to the Prince George Cougars.

The 17-year-old Edmonton, AB native has collected 19 points (7g-12a) in 20 games so far this season. The 6-0, 196 lb forward is in his second campaign with Vancouver and has amassed 64 points (21g-43a) in 89 career WHL regular season contests. Benson is eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft.

NOV 23, 2015 - NOV 29, 2015: JUSTIN GUTIERREZ, LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES
 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Justin Gutierrez has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 29th, 2015.  

Gutierrez recorded six points (6g-0a) in three games to lead the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a record of 3-0-0-0 for the week. 

On Thursday, November 26th against the Kootenay ICE, Gutierrez scored his sixth goal of the season to help lead the Hurricanes to a 9-0 win. The following night against the Brandon Wheat Kings, Gutierrez netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the Hurricanes’ 4-2 win. Gutierrez was named the game’s first star for his efforts. On Saturday, November 28th, Gutierrez capped off a productive week by recording a hat-trick against the Kootenay ICE in their 3-2 victory. Gutierrez earned first star honours on Saturday for the second consecutive night.

The 19-year-old Anchorage, AK native has collected 23 points (11g-12a) in 26 games this season. The 6-4, 200 lb forward is in his first WHL campaign with Lethbridge and has amassed 82 points (29g-53a) in 212 career WHL regular season contests. 

NOV 16, 2015 - NOV 22, 2015: TYSON BAILLIE, KELOWNA ROCKETS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets forward Tyson Baillie has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 22nd, 2015.  

Baillie recorded seven points (3g-4a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a record of 3-0-0-0 for the week. 

On Wednesday, November 18th against the Kamloops Blazers, Baillie tallied a pair of assists, including the primary assist to set up the overtime winner for teammate Rodney Southam in the Rockets 4-3 win. On Friday, November 20th, Baillie was named the game’s second star after he recorded two points (1g-1a) in the Rockets 6-1 victory against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The following night, Baillie recorded three points (2g-1a) against the Vancouver Giants to cap off a productive week. Baillie earned first star honours as the Rockets defeated the Giants by a score of 5-2.

The 20-year-old Fort Saskatchewan, AB native has collected 41 points (16g-25a) in 23 games this season to sit second overall in League scoring. The 5-11, 196 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign with Kelowna and has amassed 256 points (111g-145a) in 282 career WHL regular season contests. 

NOV 9, 2015 - NOV 15, 2015: JACKSON HOUCK, CALGARY HITMEN
 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Calgary Hitmen forward Jackson Houck has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 15th, 2015.  

Houck recorded six points (0g-6a) in two games to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a pair of victories on home ice over the weekend.

On Friday, November 13th against the Kootenay ICE, Houck tallied a pair of assists to help guide the Hitmen to a 6-0 shutout victory. The following night, Houck was named the game’s second star as he recorded four points (0g-4a) in the Hitmen’s 4-3 comeback win against the Tri-City Americans.

The 20-year-old North Vancouver, BC native has collected 23 points (8g-15a) in 20 games this season with 14 of those points (4g-10a) occurring in eight games as a Calgary Hitmen since being acquired from Vancouver. The 6-1, 192 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign and has amassed 212 points (95g-117a) in 276 career WHL regular season contests. Houck was selected in the fourth round, 94th overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.

NOV 2, 2015 - NOV 8, 2015: NICK MERKLEY, KELOWNA ROCKETS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets forward Nick Merkley has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 8th, 2015.  

Merkley recorded eight points (4g-4a) in three games to help the Kelowna Rockets post a record of 3-0-0-0 for the week.

On Tuesday, November 3rd against the Tri-City Americans, Merkley scored twice including the game-winning goal to propel the Rockets to a 3-1 victory. On Friday, November 6th, Merkley was named the game’s first star as he recorded four points (1g-3a) in the Rockets 5-4 win over the Portland Winterhawks. The following night, Merkley notched two points (1g-1a) to go along with a plus-3 rating in the Rockets 8-5 victory against the Portland Winterhawks.

The 18-year-old Calgary, AB native has collected 17 points (7g-10a) in 15 games with the Rockets this season. The 5-10, 188 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign with Kelowna and has amassed 165 points (52g-113a) in 154 career WHL regular season contests. Merkley was selected in the first round, 30th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.

OCT 26, 2015 - NOV 1, 2015: MATHEW BARZAL, SEATTLE THUNDERBIRDS
 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Seattle Thunderbirds forward Mathew Barzal has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 1st, 2015.  

Barzal recorded 10 points (1g-9a) in three games to help the Seattle Thunderbirds earn a record of 2-1-0-0 for the week.

On Tuesday, October 27th against the Brandon Wheat Kings, Barzal registered a season-high five points as he tallied five assists to go along with a plus-4 rating in the Thunderbirds 7-2 victory. Barzal was named the game’s first star on Tuesday. On Saturday, October 31st, Barzal again had a multi-point effort in which he scored a goal and collected two assists to guide the Thunderbirds to a 5-2 victory against the Kootenay ICE. Barzal claimed second star honours on Saturday. The following night against the Calgary Hitmen, Barzal notched a pair of assists in the Thunderbirds’ 4-3 loss.

The 18-year-old Coquitlam, BC native has notched 20 points (4g-16a) in 10 games with the Thunderbirds this season to go along with a plus-7 rating. The 6-0, 187 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign with Seattle and has amassed 131 points (30g-101a) in 113 career WHL regular season contests.

OCT 19, 2015 - OCT 25, 2015: JESSE GABRIELLE, PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS
 

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Jesse Gabrielle has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 25th, 2015.  

Gabrielle collected seven points (5g-2a) in four games to help the Prince George Cougars earn a record of 3-1-0-0 for the week.
 
On Tuesday, October 20th against the Calgary Hitmen, Gabrielle scored a pair of goals to earn third star honours in the Cougars 5-2 victory. The following night, Gabrielle again had a multi-goal game in which he scored twice to propel the Cougars to a 5-0 victory against the Hitmen. On Friday, October 23rd against the Kelowna Rockets, Gabrielle tallied an assist in the Cougars 5-2 loss. On Sunday, October 25th, Gabrielle recorded a goal and an assist as the Cougars defeated the Vancouver Giants by a score of 3-1.

The 18-year-old Moosomin, SK native has notched 11 points (9g-2a) in 11 games with the Cougars this season to go along with a plus-4 rating. The 6-0, 200 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign and first with Prince George. Gabrielle has amassed 81 points (44g-37a) in 128 career WHL regular season contests.

OCT 12, 2015 - OCT 18, 2015: JON MARTIN, SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Swift Current Broncos forward Jon Martin has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 18th, 2015.  

Martin collected seven points (2g-5a) in three games for the Swift Current Broncos and recorded multiple point performances in all three contests.

On Tuesday, October 13th against the Edmonton Oil Kings, Martin had a solid performance in which he recorded three points (1g-2a) to lead the Broncos to a 4-2 victory. Martin was named the game’s first star on Tuesday. On Friday, October 16th, Martin tallied a pair of assists in the Broncos 5-3 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The following night, Martin had another strong performance on the score sheet as he collected two points (1g-1a) and claimed first star honours in the Broncos 5-3 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The 20-year-old Winnipeg, MB native currently is tied for first in League scoring with 19 points (11g-8a). The 6-2, 218 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign and first with Swift Current after being acquired from Kootenay in early October. Martin has amassed 87 points (43g-44a) in 256 career WHL regular season contests.

OCT 5, 2015 - OCT 11, 2015: BRAYDEN POINT, MOOSE JAW WARRIORS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Point has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 11th, 2015.  

Point collected nine points (5g-4a) in three games to help the Moose Jaw Warriors achieve a record of 2-0-0-1 and earn five out of a possible six points.

On Wednesday, October 7th against the Vancouver Giants, Point had a productive performance as he recorded a hat trick and an assist (3g-1a) while earning first star honours in the Warriors 8-5 victory. On Friday, October 9th, Point notched two points (1g-1a) and claimed first star honours in the Warriors 4-3 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings. The following night, Point recorded another strong effort on the score sheet as he tallied three points (1g-2a) to go along with a plus-4 rating in the Warriors 4-3 victory over the Kootenay ICE. Point was named the game’s third star on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Calgary, AB native currently leads the Warriors in scoring with 12 points (6g-6a). The 5-11, 165 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Moose Jaw and has amassed 248 points (105g-143a) in 208 career WHL regular season contests.

SEPT 28, 2015 - OCT 4, 2015: REID GARDINER, PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince Albert Raiders forward Reid Gardiner has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 4th, 2015.

Gardiner collected five points (3g-2a) in two games to help the Prince Albert Raiders earn a pair of victories this week.

On Friday, October 2nd against the Vancouver Giants, Gardiner recorded two points (1g-1a) and scored the shootout winner to lift the Raiders to a 5-4 win. The following night, Gardiner recorded another strong multiple point effort with three points (2g-1a) including the overtime winner to propel the Raiders to a 5-4 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Gardiner was also named the game’s first star on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Humboldt, SK native is currently tied for first in team scoring with eight points (4g-4a). The 5-11, 195 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Prince Albert. Gardiner has amassed 136 points (67g-69a) in 195 career WHL regular season contests.

SEPT 24, 2015 - SEPT 27, 2015: ALEX FORSBERG, VICTORIA ROYALS

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Alex Forsberg has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 27th, 2015.  

Forsberg collected seven points (2g-5a) in two games to help the Victoria Royals begin the WHL’s 50th Season with a 2-0-0-0 record.

On Friday, September 25th against the Portland Winterhawks, Forsberg tallied three assists in the Royals’ 4-1 victory while earning first star honours. The following night, Forsberg recorded another strong multi-point effort with four points (2g-2a) in the Royals’ 6-5 win over the Winterhawks. Forsberg was named the game’s first star for the second consecutive night on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Waldheim, SK native is currently tied for first amongst all WHL players with seven points (2g-5a) and holds a plus-3 rating through two games. The 5-11, 192 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign and second season with Victoria. Forsberg has amassed 152 points (58g-94a) in 199 career WHL regular season contests.
