PATS BLAST AMERICANS – Garrett Mitchell and Jordan Weal each scored two goals and Jordan Eberle notched a goal and three assists to lead the visiting Regina Pats to a 7-1 win over the Tri-City Americans in Western Hockey League action on Saturday night.
Colten Teubert scored once and added two assists and Brett Leffler also counted for the Pats (13-11-3-0), who converted four of five power play chances in the contest as they earn their third straight victory. Dawson Guhle turned aside 35 of 36 shots he faced to earn the win.
Sergei Drozd scored the only goal for the Americans (18-6-0-0), who suffer their first home-ice loss of the season despite outshooting the visitors 36-24 in the contest. Dreww Owsley and Brett Martyniuk combined for 17 saves in the loss.
Shane Harper scored two goals and set up another to lead the visiting Everett Silvertips to a 4-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.
Chris Langkow and Tyler Maxwell each notched a goal and two assists for the Silvertips (14-7-1-0), who win their eighth road game of the season. Kent Simpson made 30 saves to record his fifth victory of the season.
Prab Rai – with his 13th goal of the season – scored the lone marker for the Thunderbirds (9-14-1-3), who held a 1-0 lead after the opening period but surrendered four unanswered goals. Calvin Pickard made 31 saves in a losing cause.
Brendan Gallagher scored twice and set up two more while Neil Manning also scored twice to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 7-3 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks on Saturday.
Craig Cunningham notched a goal and three assists, Lance Bouma scored once and chipped in two assist and Sebastian Svendsen also scored for the Giants (16-8-1-2), who converted all three of their power play chances in the contest. Rookie Mark Segal turned aside 27 of 30 shots he faced to win his WHL debut.
Ty Rattie, Luke Walker and Riley Boychuk scored for the Winterhawks (16-10-0-0), who suffer their second straight defeat after outshooting the hosts 30-25. Rookie Mac Carruth made 18 saves to take the loss in his first WHL game.
Adam Brown turned aside all 25 shots he faced to record the shutout as the visiting Kelowna Rockets blanked the Prince George Cougars 2-0 on Saturday.
Kyle St. Denis and Cody Chikie scored for the Rockets (12-13-1-0), who snap a five-game losing skid with the victory. The win keeps the Rockets tied for third place in the B.C. Division.
Shayne Wiebe scored the deciding goal in a shootout to lift the visiting Kamloops Blazers to a 4-3 win over the Chilliwack Bruins on Saturday.
Tyler Shattock notched a goal and an assist while C.J. Stretch and Tyler Hansen – with his first WHL goal – also counted for the Blazers (11-13-2-1), who snap a five-game losing skid. Jon Groenheyde stopped 40 of 43 shots he faced through three periods and overtime, and denied five of six Chilliwack shootout attempts to earn the win.
Brandon Manning, Jamie Crooks and Roman Horak scored for the Bruins (11-12-1-4), who outshot the visiting Blazers 43-25 in the contest. Mark Friesen made 22 saves in regulation, but was beaten twice in the shootout for the loss.
Nathan Green broke a 2-2 tie 9:02 into the third period to lift the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-2 win over the visiting Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.
Adam Kambeitz and Landon Ferraro also scored for the Rebels (12-12-0-0), who earn their second win in a row and move back to the .500 mark. Darcy Kuemper turned aside 34 of 36 shots to backstop the Rebels to the win.
Tyler Johnson scored both goals for the Chiefs (13-8-1-0), who held a 36-23 advantage in shots on goal. Michael Tadjdeh made 20 saves in a losing cause.
Cody Eakin and Justin Dowling each notched two goals and an assist to lead the visiting Swift Current Broncos to a 6-2 win over the Kootenay Ice on Saturday.
Stepan Novotny and Taylor Vause also scored for the Broncos (13-11-2-0), who record their first road victory of the season. Morgan Clark made 17 saves to earn his 11th win of the season.
James Martin, a former Bronco, scored once and added an assist while Matt Fraser also scored for the Ice (11-13-1-1), who went 1-for-6 on the power play in the contest. Todd Mathews and Nathan Lieuwen combined for 29 saves in the loss.
Jay Fehr scored the winner in a shootout to lead the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-4 triumph over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday.
Toni Rajala scored twice and Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie each tallied a goal and an assist in regulation for the Wheat Kings (16-10-0-2), who win their third straight game and move two points up on Moose Jaw for second place in the East Division. Jacob DeSerres made 38 saves in regulation and was beaten only once in the shootout to take the victory.
Brendan Rowinski and Antonin Honejsek each tallied a goal and an assist and Cody Smuk and Kevin Smith also scored for the Warriors (15-9-1-1), who held a 4-3 lead in the game until the Wheat Kings tied it with 27 seconds to play in regulation. Jeff Bosch made 21 saves through three periods and overtime, but was beaten twice in the shootout for the loss.
